1. Family Ownership and Privacy First
At Betmar, we believe that education records, child learning profiles, and homeschool documents belong strictly to the families who create them. We design our workspace modes to protect family privacy from day one.
- No Scraped Data: We will never sell, lease, or distribute your family learning data. Third-party large language models (LLMs) are not trained on your children's learning records, journals, or project submissions.
- Parent in Control: All learning content generated via AI processes requires explicit parent review and approval before becoming visible in student mode.
2. Data We Collect
We only collect the data necessary to provide and secure the Betmar homeschool workspace services:
A. Parent Account Information
Managed securely via our auth provider, Clerk. This includes your email, name, and connection settings.
B. Student Learning Profiles
Custom student profiles created by the parent inside the dashboard. This includes optional details like grade levels, learning preferences, and favorite subjects, which help tailor the guided learning experience.
C. Homeschool Records
This includes course structures, lesson plans, progress reports, student learning journals, project notes, and attendance logs. These files are stored securely in your private Convex database and Cloudflare R2 media buckets.
D. AI Tutor Sessions
Audio recording and summary transcripts from LiveKit voice sessions with the tutor (Sage). These records are only accessible to the parent and are used solely to provide progress summaries on the parent dashboard.
3. Cookie and Storage Policy
We use local storage and cookies to provide a functional and optimized experience:
- Necessary Cookies: Required to save your page preferences, such as selected theme (light/dark) and your cookie consent status.
- Analytics Cookies: Optional cookies that help us understand which public pages families visit. This data is fully anonymized.
- Marketing Cookies: Optional cookies used to measure beta outreach and registration source paths.
You can adjust your cookie choices at any time by clicking "Cookie settings" in the page footer.
4. Data Security
We employ enterprise-grade security practices to protect family data:
- All API calls and database connections are encrypted in transit via SSL/TLS.
- Authentication and authorization checks are strictly validated at the database boundary to isolate family data.
- Media uploads (photos, videos, and PDFs) are served via secure Content Delivery Networks (CDNs).
